Presentation to the President of Ireland

Following an invitation from Áras an Uachtaráin, a celebratory edition of Portráidí na Scríbhneoirí Gaeilge was presented to His Excellency, Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, on Tuesday 6th September 2016.

As part of the visit to the Áras, the project team (Editor: Dr Liam Mac Amhlaigh, Maynooth University; Design and technical consultant: Ronan Doherty, also MU; Project mananger [Stage 1]: Ursula Ní Choill), Chairperson of the Board of Directors of COMHAR, Cathal Goan, Business and Administration Executive, COMHAR Teo., Elly Shaw along with the Chief Executive of Foras na Gaeilge, Ferdie Mac an Fhailigh, and the Programme Manager of ÁIS, Breandán Mac Craith, attended a reception with the President.

Noting this special copy of the book, a handcrafted box was designed by Gearóid Ó Conchubhair (with additional items from Ronan Doherty, Studio 13, and Anglo Print) which features an inscription that mentions the occasion of the presentation.

Vivian Ó Mathúna, widower of the photographer Máire Uí Mhaicín, formally presented this special edition to the President.
