Seánraí: Scríbhneoir don aos óg
Ba as Tír Eoghain do Chaitríona Hastings. Ina léachtóir le Gaeilge agus Béaloideas in Ollscoil Uladh agus in Institiúid Teicneolaíochta na Gaillimhe-Mhaigh Eo go dtí 2010 nuair a d’éirigh sí as an obair. Roinnt leabhar do pháistí foilsithe aici: Dea-Scéala (1998), Balor (2009), An Gréasaí Bróg agus na Síoga (2010), Mac Rí Éireann (2011), Ó Chrann go Crann (2011), An tÉan Órga (2014), Hubert (2014). Chreid sí gur fiú go mór an traidisiún béil agus na seanscéalta a chur ar fáil i modhanna tarraingteacha nua-aimseartha do lucht ár linne. Chreid sí go bhfuil gá againn leo. Tá roinnt gradam buaite aici, Gradam Réics Carlo ina measc. Cailleadh í i mí na Márta 2021.
Caitríona Hastings hailed from County Tyrone. She lectured in Irish and Folklore in the University of Ulster and Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology before retiring in 2010. She has written a number of books for children: Dea-Scéala (1998), Balor (2009), An Gréasaí Bróg agus na Síoga (2010), Mac Rí Éireann (2011), Ó Chrann go Crann (2011), An tÉan Órga (2014), Hubert (2014). She edited oral traditions assembled by Westport national school pupils in the 1930s, under the Schools’ Collection scheme, in Ag Bun na Cruaiche (2009). She worked on the same material from Galway city and environs, under the title Cathair na Sruthán. She believed it was important to find attractive new ways of making oral tradition and folk literature accessible to a modern audience, and that we need such material. She has received a number of awards including Gradam Réics Carlo. She died in March 2021.
