Ciarraíoch í Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh. Bhain sí céim amach sa Ghaeilge agus sa Fhraincis ó Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh. Chaith sí tamall ag obair mar mhúinteoir teanga in ollscoil in Bordeaux. Mhúin sí an Ghaeilge i gColáiste Lehman i Nua-Eabhrac ar scoláireacht Fulbright. Tá céim dhochtúra aici ó OÉ Gaillimh. Bhronn an Chomhairle Ealaíon sparánachtaí ar Ailbhe in 2008 agus in 2015. Mar aon leis an bhfilíocht, scríobhann sí ailt ó am go chéile in The Irish Times. Chaith sí seal ina heagarthóir Gaeilge ar an iris ar líne Southword. Léigh sí filíocht dá cuid i bPáras, i Nua-Eabhrac, i mBeirlín, agus ar an mBuailtín. Tá roinnt dá saothar filíochta aistrithe go Béarla ag Gabriel Rosenstock, ag Billy Ramsell agus ag David Wheatley. D’fhoilsigh Coiscéim Péacadh (2008) agus Tost agus Allagar (2016). Le linn Thuras na bhFilí Albanacha in 2012, bronnadh Corn an Choirnéil Eoghan Ó Néill ar Ailbhe dá dán Gaeilge ‘Deireadh na Feide’. Tugann an comórtas aitheantas d’fhilíocht nua-chumtha sa Ghàidhlig agus sa Ghaeilge. Roghnaíodh ‘Filleadh ar an gCathair’ mar Dhán Uachtaránacht an Aontais Eorpaigh in 2013. Bhain an dán céanna áit amach ar ghearrliosta RTÉ, ‘A Poem for Ireland’.

Teanga scairte i dTír na mBascach a
úsáidtear chun mothúcháin a chur in iúl.

Ó! Dá mbeimis ar bhur nós-sa, a Bhascacha
ag scaoileadh le gach racht go hard,
ag ligint le gach gomh, gach gol, gach guí, gach gairdeas
i sruth géar glórmhar, gáirtheach...

bheimis suairc is grágach.
