Pearse Hutchinson spent many years working as a translator internationally. His works include Tongues Without Hands (1963); Expansions (1969); Friend Songs (1970); Watching the Morning Grow (1972); The Frost is All Over (1975); Climbing the Light (1985); The Soul That Kissed the Body (1990); Barnsley Main Seam (1995); Done into English: collected translations (2003); At Least for a While (2008). Patrick Crotty chose one of Hutchinson’s poems in English for inclusion in The Penguin Book of Irish Poetry (2010). He was Gregory Fellow of Poetry in the University of Leeds, 1971–73, and in 1975 co-founded the journal Cyphers.
