Tháinig Gearóid faoi anáil Thomáis Mhic Anna nuair a thosaigh sé amach sa drámaíocht ar Choláiste Mhuire ar Chearnóg Parnell. Lean sé lena spéis sa drámaíocht i dTaibhdhearc na Gaillimhe agus sa Little Theatre i mBaile Átha Luain. Léirigh Darach Mac Con Iomaire a chéad dráma Éiric sa Taibhdhearc sa bhliain 2001. Ghnóthaigh a dhráma Geasa Gradam na hAmharclannaíochta agus rinne an stiúrthóir Ray Yeates léiriú air in amharclann an Axis i mBaile Munna sa bhliain 2004. Tá Geasa lonnaithe sna trinsí sa Chéad Chogadh Domhanda. Léiríodh an dráma Not In My Name in Araibis, Gaeilge agus Béarla in Institiúid na hÉíreann sa bhliain 2007. Gearrdhráma a bhí ansin faoin gcogadh san Iaráic. Bhí dráma eile leis, Our National Games: The Arms Crisis, ar an ngearrliosta don Stewart Parker Trust Award sa bhliain 2009. Léiríodh a dhráma, Nóra, faoi na stailceoirí ocrais, ar an raidió agus craoladh é in 2010. Scríobh sé The Boys, dráma faoi leaid óg de chuid an lucht siúil agus é ag iarraidh a fhíoráit a bhaint amach ina chlann féin. Léiríodh a dhráma faoi Francis Ledwidge, Friendly Fire, sa New Theatre sa bhliain 2014. Léiríodh an dráma Séanadh, dráma comhaimseartha faoi 1916, ag Oireachtas na nGaeilge 2015. D’fhoilsigh an Clóchomhar a leabhar Clocha Ceangailte (1994).
Gearóid came under the influence of Tomás Mac Anna when he began his involvement in drama in Coláiste Mhuire in Parnell Square. He continued pursuing this interest in Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe and the Little Theatre in Athlone. Darach Mac Con Iomaire produced his first play Éiric in Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe in 2001. His play Geasa was awarded Gradam na hAmharclannaíochta and the director Ray Yeates produced it in the Axis in Ballymun in 2004. Geasa is set in the trenches of the First World War. The play Not In My Name, a short play about the war in Iraq, was staged in Arabic, Irish and English in the Ireland Institute in 2007. Another of his plays, Our National Games: The Arms Crisis was shortlisted for the Stewart Parker Trust Award in 2009. Nóra, a play about the hunger strikers was produced for radio and broadcast in 2010. He also wrote The Boys, a play about a young member of the travelling community seeking to find his place within his own family, and was staged in 2013. A play based on Francis Ledwidge, Friendly Fire, was staged in the New Theatre in 2014. The play Séanadh, a contemporary play about 1916, was staged at Oireachtas na nGaeilge in 2015.
