He edited An Camán and Comhar, writing for both and also for university magazine An Iodh Morainn. Works include Athbheo, 1955 and Athdhánta, 1969, Modern Irish versions of Old and Middle Irish poetry; Scéalaíocht na Ríthe, 1956, with Proinsias Mac Cana; a modern Irish version of Aisling Mhic Conglinne, 1980 and Toghail na Téibe, 1983. Founder and chair of An Bhuanchoiste Téarmaíochta, and on the Steering Committee of the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. Awarded a DLittCelt in 1991.
