Pádraig Ó Snodaigh was born in Carlow but lives in Dublin. He is an Irish-language activist, poet, writer and publisher. He worked for the Irish Electricity Supply Board, and was assistant keeper in the National Museum from 1963 to 1988. He is a former president of Conradh na Gaeilge, the Gaelic League. From 1974 to 1977, he was the editor of Carn, the official magazine of the Celtic League. In 1980, Ó Snodaigh founded the publishing company Coiscéim, a publishing company that has been a seminal influence in Irish-language publishing since 1980. Coiscéim has published over a thousand books in Irish. He has written poetry, novels, and historical essays as well. He has published scholarly works such as Hidden Ulster (Lagan Press, 1998); and The Irish Volunteers, 1715–1793 (Irish Academic Press, 1995); a novel, Ó Pharnell go Queenie (Coiscéim, 1991); and poetry collections, including Cumha agus Cumann (Aisling Design, 1985); and Cúl le Cúl (1988).
