Donla uí Bhraonáin studied Celtic Studies in University College Dublin and spent a year on scholarship in the University of Oslo, Norway where she studied Norwegian, Old Norse and Folklore. She has an MA in Communications from Dublin City University. Donla has experience translating from English to Irish and doing editing work in Irish. She worked as lecturer and terminologist in Fiontar, DCU. In 1986, having been an avid sailor, she was appointed to a subcommittee charged with developing and conserving sailing terminology for the Terminology Committee and was later appointed a member of the Terminology Committee. She participated in the setting up of www.focal.ie, the National Terminology Database for Irish. Donla is married to Anraí ó Braonáin and they have a family of five — Fiachna, Luán, Caoimhe, Cormac and Cathal. She was active on the parents’ committee of Scoil Lorcáin while her children attended school and spent three years as Cathaoirleach of the school’s Board of Management.
