Derry O’Sullivan is a poet living in Paris. His poetry collections are: Cá bhfuil do Iúdás? (1987); Cá bhfuil Tiarna Talún l’Univers? (1994); An Lá go dTáinig Siad (2005), and An bhfuil cead agam dul amach, más é do thoil é? (2009).
His work appears in English translation in The King’s English (1987). En Mal de Fleurs (1988) is a suite of poems written directly in French. An English translation by Kaarina Hollo of O’Sullivan’s poem 'Marbhghin 1943: Glaoch ar Liombó' ('Stillborn 1943: Calling Limbo') won the 2012 Times Stephen Spender Prize for poetry translation. O’Sullivan made the first direct translation of the 10th-Century Irish poem 'Cailleach Béara' into French, in collaboration with Jean-Yves Bériou and Martine Joulia.
O’Sullivan has taught English at the Sorbonne, the Institut Catholique de Paris and the Institut Supérieur d’Electronique de Paris. He is a senior examiner for the International Baccalaureate. He co-founded the Festival Franco-Anglais de Poésie.
O’Sullivan’s poem 'Blip' was incorporated into the fabric of the Gaelscoil in Bantry, Co. Cork, 2014, in collaboration with artists Cleary & Connolly. Other collaborations with visual artists include 'Ceamara/Camera', a reply to Jean-Max Albert’s 'La camera sans film', in a hand-printed, limited-edition art book by Kate Van Houten (2010) and 'Saorganach/En affranchi à faux', illustrated by Valerie Vahey in a hand-printed, limited-edition boxed set, Poésie et Gravure (2012). PayneShurvell gallery commissioned O’Sullivan to write an interpretation of Rudolf Reiber’s Suspiria (2012) for Reiber’s first solo exhibition in London. He has also collaborated (in Latin) with Mexican artist Guillermo Arizta.
