Tháinig cor sa tsaol di i 2008. Thángthas ar ailse brollaigh inti agus chuaigh sí faoi chóir leighis dá réir. Choinnigh sí dialann le linn an tréimhse sin. Ag éirí as na nótaí sin, scríobh sí cnuasach filíochta, Turas Ailse (2011). Thosaigh sí blag a bhain gradam amach, agus atá beo go fóill. Tá sí ag scríobh ó shin.
Cuireadh an-suntas ina cnuasach gearrscéalta, Dílis (2015). Chónaigh sí ar Bhóthar na bhFál le linn na mblianta is corraithí ansin, agus tá go leor de na scéalta sa chnuasach sin a tharraingníonn ar an taithí sin, chomh maith leis an dráma raidió, An Cor nach gCastar (2019). Tarraingníonn sí ar stair agus ar chuimhní teaghlaigh ina húrscéal staire chomh maith, Cití na gCártaí (2019).
Ba í an chéad scríbhneoir Gaeilge le gabháil thar lear ar sparánacht Focail Eile sa bhliain 2016. Tá teacht ar a cuntas den tréimhse cónaitheachta sin sa Fhreaslainn agus ar shaothar dá cuid don togra sin i gcúig theanga an tionscadail.
Réaltán Ní Leannáin was born in Belfast but she has been living in Dublin since the eighties.
She has taught at second level and lectured in Trinity college Dublin, Dublin City University and Queen's University Belfast. She was Irish-language Writer-in-Residence in Dublin City University in 2019.
Life changed for her in 2008 when she was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. She kept a diary during this time, and wrote a collection of poetry, Turas Ailse (2011), based on that diary. She also started and continues to keep a companion blog. She has been writing ever since.
He short story collection, Dílis (2015), is notable. She grew up on the Falls Road during its most eventful years and a lot of her stories are based on experiences from that time. Also referring to that era is her radio drama, An Cor nach gCastar (2019). She draws on historical fact and family memories as well in her period novel, Cití na gCártaí (2019).
She was the first Irish language writer to go abroad with the OtherWords bursary scheme in 2016. Her account of her time there can be read on the OtherWords blog as well as a sample of work finished there translated into all the languages involved in the project.
