Rugadh i dTiobraid Árann sa bhliain 1949 agus chuaigh ar scoil i dTiobraid Árann agus i gContae Luimní. Bhain céim BA amach sa bhFraincis agus sa Ghaeilge i gColáiste na hOllscoile, Corcaigh. Bhuaigh Bonn Rialtas na Fraince ar thorthaí na céime. Dhein MA faoi stiúir an ollaimh Seán Ó Tuama ar scéalta Dhonncha Uí Chéileachair. Foilsíodh Donncha Ó Céileachair, Anailís Stíleach sa bhliain 1978, staidéar ceannródaíoch a chuir teoiricí liteartha na Fraince i bhfeidhm ar scéalta an údair ó Ghaeltacht Chúil Aodha. Foilsíodh Pádraic Ó Conaire: Deoraí sa bhliain 1994, leabhar ar shaol agus ar shaothar Uí Chonaire, bunaithe ar a tráchtas Ph. D. Altanna agus aistí ar ghnéithe de nua-litríocht na Gaeilge i gcló aici i mBéarla agus i nGaeilge. Ábhar foilsithe aici, leis, ar Ghaeil Londan agus ar na scoláirí a bhí páirteach sna cumainn liteartha thall san 19ú haois agus i mblianta tosaigh an 20ú haois. Bhí ina léachtóir statúideach i Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge, Coláiste na hOllscoile, Corcaigh gur chuaigh ar scor sa bhliain 2012. Ina ball de Chomhairle Chumann na Scríbheann nGaedhilge, agus ina rúnaí ar an gcoiste a eagraíonn Seimineár Bliantúil an Chumainn i gCorcaigh. Pósta agus beirt iníon aici. Born in Tipperary in 1949 and attended schools in Tipperary and in County Limerick. Graduated with a First Class Honours BA in French and in Irish from University College, Cork and was awarded the French Government Medal on the results of the BA examination. Completed an MA under the direction of Professor Seán Ó Tuama on the short stories of Donncha Ó Céileachair. Donncha Ó Céileachair, Anailís Stíleach, a pioneering study which applied French literary theories to the work of the Cúil Aodha writer was published in 1978. Pádraic Ó Conaire: Deoraí, a study of the life and literary work of the Galway writer and based on her Ph. D thesis, was published in 1994. Has published numerous articles and book chapters in Irish and English on different aspects of Modern Irish literature. Has also written on the London Irish and the scholars who were active in the Irish literary organisations in London in the final years of the nineteenth and the early years of the twentieth centuries. Lectured in literature in the Department of Modern Irish at University College, Cork, retiring as Statutory lecturer in 2012. A member of the Council of the Irish Texts Society and organising secretary of that Society’s Annual Seminar at University College, Cork. Married with two adult daughters. Since retiring from the university, enjoys hill-walking and mountain climbing and runs regular half-marathons. Currently preparing a monograph on the lexicographer, Pádraig Ua Duinnín, whose biography was co-authored by Donncha Ó Céileachair.
