Muireann Ní Chíobháin

Rugadh Muireann Ní Chíobháin i gCorcaigh agus tógadh idir cathair Chorcaí agus Gaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne í. Tá a saol gairmiúil caite aici ag plé leis an gcraoltóireacht agus an fhoilsitheoireacht i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla. Cé go mbíonn sí ag scríobh do réimse leathan seánraí, is ar an aos óg go príomha atá a cuid saothar dírithe.
Tá dhá leabhar Gaeilge do leanaí scríofa ag Muireann agus curtha i gcló ag Futa Fata: Scúnc agus Smúirín in 2019 agus Eoinín in 2021. In 2020, foilsíodh aiste dá cuid sa bhailiúchán Meascra ón Aer (Coiscéim). I measc a leabhar Béarla, tá GIY’s Know-it ALLmanac (GIY Ireland, 2019) a spreagann daoine óga chun tabhairt faoin ngarraíodóireacht.
Tá an iliomad clár teilifíse scríofa agus forbartha ag Muireann don aos óg, lena n-áirítear ‘Dig In Diner’, ‘Mr Mender and The Chummyjiggers’ agus ‘The Adventures of Muc’ atá le feiceáil ar RTÉjr. Bíonn sí ag scríobh scripteanna do chláir bheochana freisin: ‘Jessy and Nessy’ (Amazon Prime agus Jam Media Studios), ‘Mya Go’ (RTÉjr agus Piranha Bar) agus ‘Berry Bees’ (Atlantyca Entertainment, SLR Productions agus Telegael) ina measc.
Mar chuid den tsraith cháiliúil teilifíse ‘Tell Me A Story’ ar RTÉjr, scríobh Muireann bailiúchán gearrscéalta faoin gcarachtar ‘Luke’, agus tá breis agus 100 gearrscéal eile scríofa aici do na sraitheanna ‘Shhh It’s Quiet Time’, ‘Pic a Story’ agus ‘Storytime’ ar RTÉjr.
Bíonn Muireann í féin le feiceáil ar an scáileán ag aisteoireacht, ag láithreoireacht, ag scéalaíocht nó go minic ag geáitsíocht i réimse leathan de chláir teilifíse i mBéarla agus Gaeilge, lena n-áirítear ‘Bia Linn’ agus ‘Whiz sa Chistin’ ar TG4.
Is breá léi a bheith ag canadh agus ag cumadh rannta. Tá breis agus 300 amhrán do pháistí cumtha aici do shraitheanna éagsúla ar RTÉjr. Chum Muireann na hamhráin sa tsraith ‘Bia Linn’ atá in úsáid go rialta anois i seomraí ranga ar fud na tíre.
Muireann Ní Chíobháin was born in Cork and grew up between Cork city and the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht in Kerry. She has spent her professional life in broadcasting and publishing in both Irish and English. While she writes for a wide range of genres, Muireann’s work is focused primarily on young audiences.
Two of Muireann’s Irish language books for young readers have been published by Futa Fata: Scúnc agus Smúirín in 2019 and Eoinín in 2021. In 2020, one of her essays was published in the collection Meascra ón Aer (Coiscéim). Among her English language publications is GIY’s Know-it ALLmanac (GIY Ireland, 2019), which inspires young readers to take up gardening.
Muireann has written and developed many television programmes for young people, including ‘Dig In Diner’, ‘Mr Mender and The Chummyjiggers’ and ‘The Adventures of Muc’, which can be seen on RTÉjr. She writes scripts for animated programmes also, including ‘Jessy and Nessy’ (Amazon Prime and Jam Media Studios), ‘Mya Go’ (RTÉjr and Piranha Bar) and ‘Berry Bees’ (Atlantyca Entertainment, SLR Productions and Telegael).
As part of the well-loved television series ‘Tell Me A Story’ on RTÉjr, Muireann wrote a collection of short stories about the character ‘Luke’, and she has written over 100 other short stories for the RTÉjr series ‘Shhh It’s Quiet Time’, ‘Pic a Story’ and ‘Storytime’.
Muireann herself can be seen acting, presenting, telling stories and generally having fun on a wide range of television programmes in Irish and English, including ‘Bia Linn’ and ‘Whiz sa Chistin’ on TG4.
She loves to sing and compose songs, and has written over 300 songs for children for various RTÉjr series. Muireann composed the songs in the series ‘Bia Linn’, which are now used regularly in schools across the country.
