Rugadh Mícheál Ó Ruairc i mBréanainn sa Leitriúch in Iarthar Chiarraí i 1953. Tá ceithre chnuasach filíochta agus trí húrscéal déag foilsithe aige as Gaeilge. Foilsíodh cnuasach amháin filíochta as Béarla, Humane Killing (Aisling Press, 1992). In 2007 bronnadh an chéad duais agus Buantrófaí Chonradh na Gaeilge air as dán Gaeilge ag an 18ú Féile Idirnáisiúnta Filíochta Dhún Laoghaire/Rath an Dúin. Tá réimse leathan ábhar do pháistí scríofa aige agus i measc na leabhar atá i gcló aige tá An bhFaca Éinne Agaibh Roy Keane? (Coiscéim, 2003); I bhFad Ó Bhaile (Coiscéim, 2004); Róisín i dTír na Sean (Coiscéim, 2005); Na Lucha ag Rince (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2009). Faoi láthair is é an t-ionadaí Gaeilge ar Bhord Áras na Scríbhneoirí i mBaile Átha Cliath. Roimhe sin chaith sé tréimhsí ar bhord bainistíochta an nuachtáin Anois agus na hirise Comhar. Bhuaigh a chéad chnuasach gearrscéalta Daoine a Itheann Daoine (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2010) an chéad duais i gComórtais Liteartha an Oireachtais in 2010. D’fhoilsigh Cois Life Tóraíocht Taisce, scéal eachtraíochta do dhéagóirí, sa bhliain 2011 agus d’fhoilsigh LeabhairCOMHAR Fianaise, scéinséir do dhaoine fásta, in 2012. Bhuaigh an bailiúchán dhátheangach filíochta, Dambatheanga/Damlanguage (Arlen House, 2014) an chéad duais i gComórtais Liteartha an Oireachtais in 2014.
Mícheál Ó Ruairc was born in Brandon in the West Kerry Gaeltacht of An Leitriúch in 1953. He is the author of four collections of poetry and of thirteen novels in the Irish language. He has also published one collection of poems in English, Humane Killing (Aisling Press, 1992). In 2007 he was awarded first prize and the Conradh na Gaeilge Perpetual Trophy for a poem in the Irish language at the 18th Annual International Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown Poetry Competition. He has written extensively for children and amongst the books he has published are An bhFaca Éinne Agaibh Roy Keane? (Coiscéim, 2003); I bhFad Ó Bhaile (Coiscéim, 2004); Róisín i dTír na Sean (Coiscéim, 2005); Na Lucha ag Rince (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2009). Currently he is the Irish language representative on the board of The Irish Writers Centre in Dublin. Prior to that he has served time on the board of the Irish language newspaper Anois and the monthly magazine Comhar. His first collection of short stories, Daoine a Itheann Daoine (Cló Iar-Chonnacht) won first prize in the Oireachtas Literary Competitions in 2010. Cois Life published Tóraíocht Taisce, an adventure story for teenagers, in 2011 and LeabhairCOMHAR published Fianaise, an adult thriller in 2012. The bilingual collection, Dambatheanga/Damlanguage (Arlen House, 2014), won first prize in the Oireachtas Literary Competitions in 2014.
