Tarlach Ó hUid was an active member of Conradh na Gaeilge and the IRA in the 1930's and 1940's. He wrote his first novel An Bealach chun an Bhearnais (1949) whilst in internment. He also worked as a journalist for Inniu 1948–1984, he was also worked as an editor from 1972 onwards. His works include Taobh Thall den Teorann (1950), shorts stories, novels such as An Dá Thrá (1952) and Adios (1975); Rachtanna feirge, bróin agus grá (1978). He has also published a collection of poems and an autobiography, Ar Thóir mo Shealbha (1960).
