A native of Áill na Brún in the parish of Carna, Conamara.
Married to Mairéad Ní Chonghaile from na Doireadha, Baile na hAbhann.
Qualified as a primary teacher in 1970 and taught in Dublin, Rosmuc and in Cill Chiaráin.
Has two poetry collections published – Úchtóga (1985) and Clocha Reatha (1986).
Very involved with sean nós singing for many years – performing, conducting workshops and organising music events.
Was singer in residence for a year in NUIG.
Founder and director for 28 years of the Joe Heaney Memorial Festival.
