Leon Ó Broin played a key role in An Gúm at the time of its founding. He translated works such as An fuadach, 1931. Some of his many published works include Ag Stracadh leis an Saol agus Scéalta eile, 1929; An Mhalltacht agus Drámaí eile, 1931; the biographies of Parnell, Robert Emmet, and historical publications such as Comhcheilg sa Chaisleán, 1963. A highly regarded civil servant, he served as a private secetary to two Ministers for Finance, as a Regional Commissioner in 1940 and played a leading role in the development of Raidió Éireann from 1947.
