Best known as a poet, short story writer and translator, also an occasional Irish Times columnist, Mac Eoin had a lifelong involvement in the Irish language movement. Author of three poetry collections and two short story collections, his awards included the Conradh na Gaeilge trophy at Dún Laoghaire Poetry Festival, 1992, and the Arts Council literary bursary, 2001. With Gabriel Rosenstock he published a translation of Yeats’ poetry to Irish, Byzantium (1991). He edited Rosenstock’s translation of 30 Zen Haiku (1994) by J. W. Hackett. His translation of Deoraíocht by Pádraig Ó Conaire, Exile (1994), was shortlisted for ‘Aristeion’, the European Council prize.
