Born and reared in Ventry, educated in Coláiste Íde, Carysfort, UCD, and Trinity College Dublin. Brenda spent many years as principal of Scoil Chrónáin in Rathcoole in Dublin. Upon her retirement, she began a second career as a filmaker and scriptwriter.
As an anthologist, she prepared and compiled picture anthology of the rich folklore of Corca Dhuibhna, Aneas (Futa Fata, 2013) and Bibeanna: memories from a corner of Ireland (Mercier Press, 2007) to accompany the TG4 series of the same name.
